The Baroque-style Guzmán Tower is one of Conil's most emblematic monuments. Built in the 14th century by Alonso Pérez de Guzmán ‘El Bueno’, it was the nucleus around which the town developed. Originally part of the castle and walls, the Tower served as a noble residence and refuge during dangerous times. The Plaza de Santa Catalina, built around the Tower, was the main square of Conil until the 19th century. Remodelled in 1784 and declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1985, the Guzmán Tower is a living testimony to Conil's rich history.
In the interior of a unique natural spot in the province of Cadiz, we find the Castle of Sancti Petri, a construction that dates back to 1610 when Philip II sent it to be built to form part of his coastal surveillance systems. It is of vital importance for the maintenance of the birds in its almost 170 hectares. From here you can enjoy wonderful views of the sunset, and we can also organise the visit with specialised companies to make it a unique visit.
The watchtowers in and around Conil are silent witnesses to the region's rich maritime history. Built as part of a coastal defensive network, these impressive structures played a crucial role in protecting local fishermen from attacks by pirates and privateers. Over the centuries, they have been watchful guardians of the coast, communicating with each other to keep the coastal communities of the province of Cádiz safe. We have the following: Torre del Puerco, Roche, La Atalaya: now demolished and Castilnovo.
